As it so happens, I shared a few bottles of wine with some friends this weekend. We made a roast with a whole array of roasted root vegetables (including yellow beets, which I tried for the first time-yum!), an amazing salad, and guacamole with pine…

I think plastic should be considered for wines that don't need aging, because-like you pointed out-plastic doesn't really do the trick for wines that need time in the bottle... Like lighter whites, fruit-infused, etc. However, if that's the issue, I…

About Me
I moved to Walla Walla for college in 2003, and have yet to leave. I guess I got caught up in the wine industry and am loving it! Although the winters here can get cold and the days short, once spring rolls around, Walla is gorgeous for about 7 months straight.

Looking for a good Zin?

I tried a vertical of Givich Vineyard Zinfandels (2004, 2005, 2006 vintages). These El Dorado County, single vineyard wines, are made in small lots - the 2005 vintage, for example, was a whopping total of 95 cases. Sourcing grapes from deep-rooted hillside vineyards, winemaker Ken Givich makes his wines in small lots, as naturally as possible - avoiding the use of machinery or chemicals. Each wine undergoes 20-24 months of barrel aging, and 3 months of bottle aging prior to release. Alright, eno… Continue

A blurb on Millenials and Wine

I wrote this as a comment on a blog post, and it turned into something that stands on its own:

There's no doubt about it, millennials are becoming a crucial target demographic for wineries, and gen Y is not as susceptible to traditional marketing tactics. Call us the Social Networking generation, I like to call it the Open Source generation. The millennial consumer does not establish brand trust in the same ways that previous generations have. Gen Y-ers respond to communities rather than iconic… Continue

So I had red wine with fish....deal with it.

And it was damn good too. Salmon burgers with a dill/lemon yogurt sauce and sweet potato fries. We had a Cayuse Grenache rose for starters. United Airlines would have charged Cayuse's bottle for two seats. Yea, it was....heavy. I think heavy bottles are silly and can often represent the "I'm an important person because I drive a 860i BMW"-syndrome. But no matter, the rose was good, just be ready to pay an arm for shipping the wine.

With the food we had the 2005 Steele "Bien Nacido Vineyard" Pin… Continue

Acorn, Unti and maybe deLorimier, except they skipped the '06 vintage to blend, though I thought it was pretty good from barrel; a tad hot, but juicy & caramelly.
