Perhaps in restaurants where the wine has been marked up 300% you should cap the wine tip. But where the restaurant is charging retail or only a little more, it's not fair to stiff the waitstaff. I kinda wish there was a flat tip per bottle (I alway…

You might instead try PALmina :) I believe I liked the Arneis and the Tocai Friulano. They grow some other interesting varietals so a trip to the Lompoc wine ghetto might help you check some more of your list.

This is a group for those of us who wish to broaden the scope of our wine discovery by gaining admission into the Wine Century Club. This group is a "support group" for those wine adventurers who have tasted/wish to taste 100+ wine varietals.

I've yet to partake in wine clubs for some of the reasons Scott mentioned. I don't want my wine cooked. I DO want to know when it will be arriving (at least within a week or so of time). The release parties are a bonus - not a deal breaker for me, b…

The big draw back for many consumers when it comes to wine clubs is the inflexibility of them - timing wise, shipping wise, even cancellation wise! I have been most attracted to the wine clubs that allow me to get those "exclusive" wines (or first d…

Hey everyone. I'm interested in learning more about what you like and don't like about wine clubs. Some topics to discuss are: How do you pick a wine club? How many wine clubs do you belong to? Do you change wine clubs frequently or stay with the sa…

I think a buying strategy is in order if you're trying to break the habit of always buying your fallback wine. I recently wrote about my personal buying strategies at my blog. My two main strategies include how to get values at the grocery store an…

I read an interesting book called "How to Taste: A Guide to Enjoying Wine" by Jancis Robinson that I'd recommend. Other than that, you just need to taste a lot of wine. I've recently gotten started myself and so I've been concentrating mostly on Ca…

I find when I'm at the store looking at the shelf o'bargains, the label is often a big seller for me--and I keep getting burned by this. I used to be a graphic designer and so I've got a pattern in my that the best marketing/design is produced by th…

I love Fiddlehead's Willamette Pinots. Ortman also makes Pinot from Fiddlestix Vineyard. Might be able to find them online, you can try comparison shopping sites for that.

About Me
I love wine! Living in Southern California gives me easy weekend access to the Central Coast which is only the prettiest place on the planet... and there's wine everywhere!!

I try to drink wines mostly from California because it takes a lot of fuel to transport wine around the world. In general I know a decent amount about wines from the Central Coast and weekend wine-tasting trips are how I fill out my knowledge. I also am addicted to the Wine House on Cotner.

I recently started a small wine lead-gen business with a friend of mine. We have two sites:

http://www.grapesmart.net is a blog dedicated to wine tastings and other helpful tips. Our aim is to help consumers (not industry folks and collectors) easily find wines at a good value. If you have a wine site and are interested in link-building, let me know... we'll write a short post about you on our blog in exchange for a link or blog-post on yours.

Our other site, http://www.wineclubrevies.net, is dedicated to cataloging and rating all of the wine clubs out there. We're starting with retail wine clubs because they're for everyone, as opposed to winery clubs which are for people who specifically like one winery (or many) and we can't really affect that online...
